Shen Yun Exceeds Expectations Says Senator

INDIANAPOLIS—Indiana State Senator Greg Taylor and his wife Danielle were at the Murat Theatre on Wednesday, March 10, to see the final performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts in Indianapolis on the U.S. leg of its 2010 World Tour. Senator Taylor had conveyed his best wishes to Shen Yun before they arrived in Indianapolis.

Sen. Taylor had not see Shen Yun before and the experience exceeded his expectations.

“Before I came here today I didn't know what I was going to be in for, but after I have recognized the amount of choreography and the amount of expertise that goes into this—I'm very impressed with the dancers and what they can do.”

The New York-based Shen Yun brings China’s millennia-old culture alive with ancient legends and contemporary realities though dance and music. Performances include Chinese ethnic and folk dance making for a unique vision of Chinese traditional culture.

Sen. Taylor only knew a little bit about the culture before seeing Shen Yun.

“I think this is very helpful. The dances look like they kind of dictate or they kind of discern some of the myths and some of the realities of Chinese culture, and it's good to be able to watch it through the dance and the performance.”

The Senator particularly enjoyed Tibetan Dance of Praise. “I understand exactly what they're doing and what they're trying to say with their body movement and things like that.”

Mrs. Taylor was fascinated with the feminine flowing movements in Water Sleeves.

“I'm just extremely impressed with the costumes, the dance performances, ... just everything involved really,” she said.

The Shen Yun orchestra combines traditional Chinese and classical Western instruments and plays all original compositions, something Mrs. Taylor really enjoyed. “Wonderful, every song perfectly goes along with the dance moves and tells a story with each dance scenario.”

In unison both Senator Taylor and his wife said they would “definitely” come to see Shen Yun again. They would tell their friends that Shen Yun was colorful, brilliant, creative, artistic.
