Shen Yun Hailed A ‘Phenomenon’

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky—Jamie Guillory, announcer and producer of several radio stations in Louisville and nationwide for Clear Channel Radio, attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts VIP reception after seeing the show.

The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts, world premier of ancient Chinese culture portrayed in classical Chinese dance, music and song, was held on March 7 at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.

Mr. Guillory, who has been in the radio industry for 23 years, has only recently found out he is a direct descendant of Gugliemo Marconi, the inventor of radio. It's a fact he is proud of.

“Very wonderful show … wonderful people, a lot of themes, wonderful colors. Very full of life, very creative, wonderful music,” he rattled off, startled by the discovery that Shen Yun travels with its own orchestra.

His wife Doris loved the extravaganza.

Stunning costumed dancers choreographed to match 3-D digital backdrops and the orchestral fusion of Western and Chinese music in original composition, and vocalists and solo musicians.

“Yes, very extravagant, very nice,” she said. “I think they said there were over a thousand costumes. ... And if I’m not mistaken, they traveled from Cininnati, Ohio last night and got here very early this morning, went straight to practicing their performances for this evening.

“I’ve got to applaud them because there’s some youngsters in there, people of all ages from Shen Yun. It’s just wonderful that people can share their culture with other people and other parts of the country, and the world for that matter. I’m very proud of that.”

Mrs. Guillory said Shen Yun’s artistic creativity was phenomenal.

“It just brought to life so much of culture that … when you see such beauty and the way they related to life and love and family … beautiful, and God, that was just phenomenal. You just don’t hardly see that anymore.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company is one of three New York-based companies on its 2010 World Tour of 400 shows in 100 cities. The world premier show will be performing at Indianapolis March 9-10 before going on to Kansas City for performances March 13-14.
